Youth/Senior Breakfast Program

Dear Respected Elders, Past Presidents, Brothers, Sisters and Youth السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

Alhamdullilah we had a very successful “Seniors & Youth Breakfast Talk!” activity today. This was the first time we held an activity of this kind, and we were overwhelmed to hear the positive feedback, from both the seniors as well as the youth! In case you’re wondering, our special breakfast was the traditional hamri+barazi, kaleji jo saag, cupcakes, and fruit.

This activity allowed our youth and seniors to connect with each other on a more intimate level. We have all experienced and read about the negative effects of social isolation due to COVID. Having the youth visit our seniors to engage in a friendly chat and share some smiles went a long way in creating comfort and encouraging a positive mental state. Moreover, by focusing on sharing digital technology, we aimed to empower our seniors and encourage healthy living. Finally, we are confident that the youth benefited from some valuable conversations and words of wisdom.

Thank you to all the youth and seniors who participated. And a very special thank you to all our volunteers! May Allah SWT reward everyone immensely for working towards building a vibrant NMJ community in Canada, Ameen!

We would like to request our senior participants to fill out the following survey: If you can kindly complete the survey by Wednesday, it would be greatly appreciated!

Impact Numbers:
# of seniors that benefited: 16
# of youth that participated: 10
# of volunteers: 14

Assalamu Alikum. Jazak Allah for the breakfast and meeting up with the 2 youths. They were very friendly and great company having shared a lot information and updates. And for the Amazon tablet [and] COVID test kit.” – Senior

…On behalf of my self and my family I wish to profoundly thank and congratulate you and your entire committee for taking the monumental task of connecting the youth of our community to the Elders and other Seniors of our community within the GTHA. The breakfast was sumptuous and the discussion with the youth was very interesting…To give impetus and boost to such endeavours, which will, In-sha-Allah, enable our community to achieve its aims and ambitions, I believe that the input of every member of our Jamaat, young or old, male or female is vital…” -Senior

After visiting the seniors and getting to know each other after two full years, it made me really ponder upon what a community really means…I really enjoyed giving my input on how we could expand our community and they gave me valuable advice and shared their experiences which would definitely benefit the future of the Jamaat!” -Youth

I had an amazing time with the senior couple I was with Alhamdulillah and learned so much from both of them. Not only were both our families immigrants to Canada, but I could understand their struggles and sacrifices when they settled here, making me more appreciative of my own parents’ struggles and sacrifices. We also discussed a lot on Kenya and food, and it really made me miss my home but happy that there’s a family here just like mine who understands my culture and home. Finally, I loved learning about their experiences as professionals, and also hearing about their children’s’ professions! It’s always amazing to see the support and joy parents have when they see their children doing what they love and succeeding in life, Masha Allah.” -Youth
